Canadian children’s furniture brand Montinest, headquartered in Toronto, is gearing up to relocate its base to New York City starting June. Founder Birkan Ulusoy has already begun the process of moving his ventures to New York, and the relocation of Montinest was an anticipated move.
Montinest has secured a prominent retail space on 5th Avenue and aims to shift its North American production to New Jersey by 2025. In an exclusive interview, we sat down with Birkan Ulusoy in New York to discuss this strategic move.
Q: Welcome to New York. You’ve relocated many of your ventures here. Can we say you’re a New Yorker now?
Birkan Ulusoy: Well, I’ve been spending a significant portion of my time here for the last year. I’m consolidating all my ventures under the Birkan Ulusoy Manhattan umbrella. A crucial part of this is relocating our headquarters. We plan to complete the entire relocation process by the end of 2025. I’m not sure if I’m a New Yorker yet, but I can confidently say that I love it here.
Q: What prompted the decision to move Montinest’s base to New York?
BU: New York is a global hub for design, innovation, and business. Being present in this vibrant city will open up new opportunities for Montinest to showcase our products and connect with a diverse clientele. The move aligns with our vision to expand our reach and solidify our position as a leading children’s furniture brand.
Q: Can you share more about your plans for North American production?
BU: Absolutely. By 2025, we aim to transition our North American production facilities to New Jersey. This strategic location will allow us to efficiently serve the East Coast market and streamline our operations. We’re excited about the prospects of this move and the potential for growth it presents.
Q: How do you envision Montinest’s future in the competitive New York market?
BU: New York is a challenging market, but we’re prepared to meet that challenge head-on. Our unique designs and commitment to quality have already resonated with customers here. We plan to leverage our new flagship store on 5th Avenue to showcase our brand and connect with New Yorkers on a deeper level. With our innovative products and exceptional customer service, we’re confident in our ability to thrive in this competitive landscape.
The relocation of Montinest to New York marks a significant milestone for the Canadian brand, positioning it for further growth and exposure in the influential American market. As Birkan Ulusoy navigates this new chapter, the company’s future looks promising, with plans for expanded production and a heightened presence in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic cities.
