How Store Rankings Work

Our store rankings combine editorial assessments with adjusted customer ratings. Read the criteria, eligibility rules and relationship disclosures.

Editorial scores and category positions

Store scores are provisional editorial opinions on a five-point scale, prepared with AI assistance from the information already documented in each ecom.nyc profile. They consider the clarity of the product focus, the documented purchasing options and available buyer guidance. They are not customer ratings, verified-purchase reviews or a comprehensive audit of the business.

What the scores mean

5 represents an exceptional documented proposition; 4 a strong proposition; 3 an adequate but limited proposition; 2 substantial documented limitations; and 1 very limited documented usefulness. Decimal scores express editorial judgment, not statistically measured differences. Missing documentation does not prove poor service. This first edition has not tested checkout, delivery, returns, product quality or support response times.

How positions are assigned

Categories normally order listed stores by editorial score, with equal scores ordered alphabetically. A position such as #1 in a category refers only to this editorial directory, not all businesses in the market. Category membership includes the relevant subcategories. Homepage listings continue to show the most recently added stores first.

Business & Industrial Supplies: editorial priority and disclosure

Atlantic Restaurant & Supermarket Equipment is placed first and Supermarket World second by the publisher’s explicit editorial preference, independently of their numeric scores. The publisher works with Atlantic and is affiliated with Supermarket World. These placements are not independent awards or evidence that these businesses outperform every competitor. Other stores follow in score order.

Customer reviews remain separate

Customer stars and review counts are displayed separately and do not affect this editorial edition. The earlier proposed 60% editorial / 40% customer formula is not used for the current rankings. No customer reviews have been created to support editorial positions.

Corrections and updates

Each assessment includes its date, scope and supporting rationale on the category page. This initial edition is based on existing profile research rather than a fresh audit of every site. Corrections can be submitted through the site’s contribution form. Scores and editorial priorities can change as the evidence is reviewed.
